What are your thoughts on tipping a business owner that is also the service provider?
I have been asked this question multiple times. As a service provider, I do believe that the person providing the service should be compensated according to your discretion and the quality of service you are given.

Let us put aside the fact that the business is owned by the person. Would you have given a tip to whomever provided the service granting that the quality was up to par? So why would your generosity then be based on the person’s possessions? That would mean you should be charged according to your possessions.

I have also been told that if the owner desires a tip it should be added to the cost of the service. Though I can relate to this form of thinking, not everyone is able to afford higher prices to accommodate satisfactory compensation. On the other hand, would you then complain that the prices are extravagant?

I do believe not everyone is able to leave a tip, usually those are the persons that show their gratitude through kindness and understanding. This always goes a long way as well.

Next time you are provided with exceptional service, do not forget to show your service provider your gratitude.
